Kitchen Progress

Well with Gigi's pneumonia, I haven't had time to focus on posting the kitchen progress, but now that everything is back to normal here is the update.

First, it took forever to do the floor - day after day they were working on the floor. But finally it is finished, here is a shot as Doug was wiping away the dust. It's so BEAUTIFUL!!!

After that things moved fast, the countertops, dishwasher, sink, faucets and stovetop were installed. Wow what an improvement!

Here is ashot with the floor...

As you can see the doors of the cabinets are off. Now comes the yucky part, Paul is painting the ceiling trim and walls. I am painting the cabinets and putting on new hardware. When that's finished the kitchen will be complete.

Gigi is Feeling Better

Gigi Posted by Picasa

For those of you who have been concerned, I have good news, Gigi is feeling much better. She has been sick this past week, first with the croup and then she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Now we have her on medicine, she is doing much better.

Have you ever tried to give medicine to a toddler? Oh my goodness, what an ordeal. I thought it was hard to give medicine to a cat but, that was just the warm up exercise. This past week, Gigi refused to eat everything offered to her and barely drank anything (thank goodness for PediaLite and PediaSure), the thought of allowing us to give her a foreign tasting, gritty medicine was out of the question. Fortunately, we were able to reason with her (you laugh, it's true) and after holding her down she decided to go ahead and swallow the antibiotics. What do you do if they don't? You can't hold her mouth closed and blow on her nose like you do to a cat.

Well she hasn't had a fever all day, which is great. We all got sleep last night, although I kept waking up worrying about her. And today she started eating better and playing normally.

It's nice to get things back to normal.

Kitchen Face Lift!

FINALLY! The work has begun. It was back in the early summer that this process started, and it seems like it has taken forever to get the materials and get on our contractor's schedule. But the day has finally arrived!!!

I'll try to get as many in progress shots posted as I can but let's start here with what we have been living with for the last five years. Sorry these aren't the cleanest before shots since I took them one morning as we were finishing breakfast.

This is a shot of the ugly floor.

And this is what I came home to today. They have torn out the floor, the dishwasher, countertops, sink and cooktop! It is great to see it all gone.

I can't wait to see what it looks like after tomorrow. Doug said he'd have us back up and running by the weekend, Ah no cooking for a week.

Girlfriends

Girlfriends Posted by Picasa

Well its been an interesting weekend. A good one. First off we cleared out the kitchen today for the face lift I spoke of a few months back. The stars have aligned and it's finally going to happen. That is if we don't chase away the contractors with chicken pox! I'll get into all or part of that later depending on what develops.

Anyway this post is about girlfriends, something I forgot I had, or thought I lost. Not to take away from my girlfriends at work because they are very important to me, but I'm talking about friends from other walks of life, those who help define your past. This weekend friends of our held their annual crab feat. These friends, Craig and Tula, are also the ones who invited us to join the beach house. One of the reasons I wanted to join the beach house was to make some new friends, which we did and I am glad we did. What I didn't expect was the connection with old friends, old girlfriends to be exact. The first one is Jackie, who I invited to join the beach house so that one is sort of a given. But not completely because before the beach house and even somewhat during, we really haven't had (or made) a lot of time to connect. But I saw her name on the Evite for the crab feast and was excited that she was planning on attending. We got there fairly early and she showed up not long after that. The two of us got a chance to sit and eat crabs and chat which was great.

After that I mingled around and talked with some of my new friends, namely Helen and David who are a really nice couple with similar political views. I got a kick out of Helen worrying if she offended anyone by making disparaging comments about Bush! In the mean time I was looking out for my friends Scott and Izzy, it's been a really long time since I 've seen them and I knew they were coming. Well as I am talking with David I hear a familiar voice call my name, I turn and it's my long lost girlfriend Erica! Wow what a great surprise. Scott and Izzy brought her to the party and kept it a secret. Even our hosts were in on the surprise.

Anyway, long story short (too late huh?), I spent the rest of the party sitting and talking with three of my old girlfriends, how great is that? It really reminds me that yes, I do have some great girlfriends and even though we haven't been able to get together as often as we wish, and have each taken a different path, the connection is still there. It was really nice. We live in a very busy time in a very busy part of the world but there is nothing like making a connection with people you have a history with.

P.S. Kudos to Paul who took on toddler duty and followed Ms. G around for hours, keeping her safe, while I sat with the girls.

On Vacation

Well I figure I better check in since it's been over week since my last post. I've been on vacation, not so much out of town, but just chillin at home with Paul and Gigi. We intially scheduled the week to go to the beach but by the time the week got here we had pretty much burned out on the beach house. We went down to pick up our stuff, Gigi was sick and we were tired of the house, so the next day we hit the Rehoboth outlets and then went home.

It was nice to be home and have not obligations, we worked in the yard, went to the park and relaxed. I am sure Gigi is so bored of us but we enjoyed getting to spend so much time her.

Anyway I have nothing really interesting to say and no pictures to post. I'll get back on track now that my schedule is back.
